PABC is not a tier-worshipping community. Let's get that straight.
Our approach is fundamentally hax-aware rather than tier-label-first. We do not give a character an automatic victory simply because their profile displays a higher tier. A tier is a classification of an entity's demonstrated scale, structure, or ontological status under the applicable PABC system. It is not a universal combat statistic, an immunity certificate, or a guarantee that the character wins every matchup.
And no, we do not give a shit about how impressive a tier looks if the actual interaction tells a different story.
PABC treats hax as a separate qualitative subject. Its mechanism, target, scope, activation conditions, limitations, and resistance interactions must be examined independently. A character's tier does not automatically invalidate another character's abilities. Likewise, possessing powerful hax does not automatically grant unrestricted potency, universal applicability, or a higher ontological classification.
This is why future character profiles and Content Revision Threads (CRTs) will place greater emphasis on demonstrated abilities and their actual effectiveness, alongside the character's tier. We will examine whether the ability satisfies the relevant requirements in the PABC Tiering Draft and System V.
Anti-feats are not optional.
A Tier 1-F character can lose to a 5-B character. A higher classification does not magically prevent defeat, nor does it establish resistance to every possible mechanism. If the lower-tier character possesses an ability that successfully interacts with the opponent, that interaction must be evaluated. We are not going to dismiss it because someone's favourite character has a bigger tier label.
The same standard applies to PIS. Plot-Induced Stupidity is not a fucking escape card. Calling an inconvenient scene PIS requires an argument establishing why the character's behaviour conflicts with their demonstrated competence and why the scene lacks an adequate in-universe explanation. If the scene establishes a genuine limitation, it must be recorded.
The event itself must be distinguished from its wording. A scene can be canon while its dialogue contains metaphor, hyperbole, or synecdoche. Neither literal interpretation nor figurative interpretation should be assumed without examining the context. We will not manufacture excuses to protect characters from their own source material.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is PABC so pedantic?
Because unsupported conclusions are worthless. We distinguish evidence, interpretation, and classification. If someone claims qualitative transcendence, universal resistance, or unrestricted hax, they need to establish the relevant relation and its scope. Fancy terminology is not a substitute for an argument.
Why not just make Tier 0 Boundless and put everything else beneath it?
Because Tier 0 is not one interchangeable label for anything described as absolute. System V distinguishes separate apex families, including Absolute Ground, Apophatic Limit, and Genuine Dialetheia. These concern different ontological and logical claims. Collapsing them into one generic Boundless category would erase distinctions the system specifically exists to preserve.
Is PABC abandoning tiering?
No. Tiering remains necessary for classification. We are rejecting the idea that tiering alone determines combat outcomes.
Will famous characters be evaluated differently?
No special treatment. Future CRTs involving characters such as Superboy-Prime will examine their physical statistics, hax, resistances, anti-feats, and actual limitations independently. Retcon punches and narrative abilities deserve analysis, but they do not automatically establish every other statistic.
Does a higher tier mean nothing?
Of course it means something. It simply does not mean everything.
PABC's position is straightforward: classify the entity, establish the ability, examine the interaction, and justify the conclusion. Stop treating tier labels like fucking win buttons.
